Charming Tails were created by artist Dean Griff. Dean was
born in 1960 and spent his childhood on the family farm in
New York. He began drawing animals at an early age and eventually
decided to study art. In the early 1990s he began creating
a line of ornaments for Silvestri called the Woodland Collection.
Silvestri was acquired by Fitz & Floyd in 1993 and the Woodland
Collection was renamed Charming Tails. In 2009 Enesco bought the
Charming Tails line, which is still in production as of 2018.
Charming Tails are made of resin. The process begins with the artist
drawing multiple images of the figurine.
A sculptor uses these drawings to create a clay sculpture. A mold is
made from the sculpture and pieces are then cast from the mold.
