Stereographs
Company: Underwood & Underwood
Composition: Silver Gelatin on Cardstock
Date: 1900-1910
|
A stereograph consists of two pictures taken at slightly different angles
and mounted on a card. When viewed through a stereoscope they give
the viewer a three dimensional picture. If you are old enough to remember
having a ViewMaster, it's basically the same thing.
Underwood & Underwood was started in 1881 and sold to Keystone Viewing
Company in 1920 or 1921.
My initial assumption was that these two stereographs
were made between 1900 and 1910. I am still researching, but I think they might
possibly be from before 1895. |

The Star of Bethlehem (back)
|
The title, The Star of Bethlehem, is repeated in five languages. I believe
they are French, German, Spanish, Swedish, and Russian. This is found on
many of the stereographs published by Underwood & Underwood. |

The Nativity, The Shepherds' Adoration

This stereograph also has the title repeated in French, German, Spanish,
Swedish, and Russian. It has a scripture listed, along with a description
of the photo. |
